Noida (Uttar Pradesh) [India], May 4 (ANI): Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan participated in the ‘One Nation One Election Cross Country Race’ organised in Uttar Pradesh’s Noida on Sunday.
In an effort to show the support for unifying Parliamentary and State assembly elections, Chouhan highlighted how thousands are running to tell political parties to ‘wake up’ and stop the ‘drama of repeated elections.’
“Waking up at 6 in the morning, Noida is running. The kids, the youth, sisters, mothers, are raising their voice high for one nation one election. They are saying that the political parties should wake up, the drama of elections will not work repeatedly,” Chouhan told ANI.
Chouhan also participated in the race, running alongside the thousands of people.
After the race, he mentioned that a cycle of continuous elections happening across the country is an “obstacle for a developed India.”
“Everyone came out with a resolution that by amending the constitution, elections to the Legislative Assembly and Lok Sabha should be held simultaneously once in five years. Now the people are determined. Repeated elections are the biggest obstacle to achieving the goal of ‘viksit bharat’ Public welfare is hampered. Plans are affected. All political parties are preparing for five years only to prepare for the elections. No long-term plan is made. Elections spending is indiscriminate. From politicians to government officials, they are always busy preparing for elections,” Chouhan said.
Highlighting how the idea of unified elections has gained support, he added, “They are asking to bring an amendment to the constitution and do the Parliamentary and state assembly elections together.”
Rajya Sabha MP Surendra Nagar also attended the race, and talked about how the BJP has organised multiple events to bring awareness for One Nation One Election.
“Regarding One Nation One Election, to increase awareness about it we are organising many events, for that itself we have organised a cross country race, to bring awareness on the issue. The common people want that there is only one election in the country,” the Rajya Sabha MP said.
The Constitution Amendment Bill on ‘One Nation, One Election,’ currently under review by the Joint Parliamentary Committee, it proposes aligning the election cycles of the Lok Sabha and state assemblies. (ANI)
