New Delhi [India], April 27 (ANI): Veteran Congress leader and former Union Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar has asked whether the Pahalgam tragedy was the result of “unresolved questions of partition”.
Aiyar said this while addressing a book release event at the India International Centre in the national capital on Saturday.
“I think many people almost prevented the partition. But the partition happened…because there were differences in value systems and assessments of the nature of India’s nationhood and its civilizational inheritance between people like Gandhi, I would say, and Pandit Nehru … and Jinnah and many other Muslims who did not agree with Mr Jinnah,” Aiyar said.
“But the fact is that partition happened and till today we are living with the consequences of that partition. Is this how we should be living? Is not the unresolved questions of partition reflected in the terrible tragedy that was enacted near Pahalgam on 22 April?,” the senior Congress leader asked, referring to the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir.
The terrorists attacked tourists at Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam on Tuesday, killing 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen while leaving several others injured, in one of the deadliest attacks in the Valley since the 2019 Pulwama strike in which 40 CRPF jawans were killed.
Following the Pahalgam terror attack, India has taken strong measures against Pakistan for its support of cross-border terrorism.
The government has said that terrorists responsible for a terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam and conspirators will face severe punishment. (ANI)
